Vissenbjerg municipality

Vissenbjerg municipality is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in Funen County on the island of Funen in central Denmark. The municipal covers an area of 47 km², and has a total population of 6,096 (2005). Its mayor is Lene Due Andersen, a member of the Social Democrats (Socialdemokraterne) political party.
The municipality's main city and the site of its municipal council is the town of Vissenbjerg.
Neighboring municipalities are Odense to the east, Søndersø to the north, Aarup to the west and southwest, and Tommerup to the southeast.
The municipality was formed in 1970 from Vissenbjerg parish.
By January 1, 2007 Vissenbjerg municipality will cease to exist as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It will be merged with existing Assens, Glamsbjerg, Haarby Tommerup, and Aarup municipalities to form the new Assens municipality. This will create a municipality with an area of 513 km² and a total population of 41,201 (2005). The new municipality will belong to the new Region Syddanmark ("South Denmark Region").
