Voltaire is a city in McHenry County, North Dakota in the United States. The population was 51 at the 2000 census. Voltaire was founded in 1901.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 51 people, 20 households, and 14 families residing in the city. The population density was 48.0/km² (125.1/mi²). There were 21 housing units at an average density of 19.8/km² (51.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 100.00% White.
There were 20 households out of which 35.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.0% were married couples living together, 15.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.0% were non-families. 30.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.14.
In the city the population was spread out with 31.4% under the age of 18, 2.0% from 18 to 24, 21.6% from 25 to 44, 29.4% from 45 to 64, and 15.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 96.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.4 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $37,500, and the median income for a family was $37,500. Males had a median income of $38,750 versus $19,375 for females. The per capita income for the city was $14,854. There were 16.7% of families and 13.0% of the population living below the poverty line, including 26.7% of under eighteens and none of those over 64.
