W. Christian Halstead

William Christian Halstead (b. February 7, 1981) is an American pop culture icon. He is primarily renowned for his use of Adobe Photoshop to create retouched digital images, often with humorous intent.

Halstead first gained notoriety in 1997 when one of his first works — an image of himself brandishing a firearm — appeared on the Internet and was subsequently noticed by faculty members at Central Bucks West High School. Despite widespread public fear of violence among American public schools, Halstead escaped reprimand and resolved to continue his creative expression.

The popularity of MySpace has not only allowed Halstead to share his genius with a larger audience than ever, but provided him with a wider assortment of doctorable images. Since 2002, Halstead has successfully doctored photos of many celebrities and public figures, including Sean Bean, Mr. T, Klaus Kinski, Christopher D. Rist, Allen Crawford, Jake Gyllenhaal, Rain Polsky, Shaquille O'Neal, Dan Ventresca, and John de Lancie. His favorite subject, however, is himself; Halstead has created over seventy self portraits, including a Halstead action figure and several in which he appears deceased.
