Wesley Lane Startin (born July 15, 1973 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho) is an American author and politician.
Adopted at the age of three weeks, Startin grew up in Twin Falls, Idaho. He graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1991 and Idaho State University in Pocatello in 1996. Shortly before his 21st birthday, in 1994 Startin was elected president of Idaho Young Democrats and served a two-year term on the Idaho Democratic Party executive committee. After graduating from Idaho State Startin moved to Chicago and then to Philadelphia.
In 2000 Startin edited and co-authored From Bordello to Ballot Box, a biography of Nevada brothel worker turned politician Jessi Winchester [1]. Startin moved to Las Vegas late in the year.
In 2001 Startin left the Democratic Party to join the Green Party. He won the 2002 Green nomination for United States House of Representatives in the First Congressional District of Nevada[2]. Startin generated controversy within the party by coming out in support of Operation Enduring Freedom shortly after the September 11, 2001 attacks, the only Green candidate to do so publicly[3] [4]. He was defeated by Democratic incumbent Shelley Berkley in the general election[5]. Startin returned to the Democratic Party in 2003.
Startin currently resides in Twin Falls, Idaho.
