Waking Moments is an episode of Star Trek: Voyager, the 13th episode of the fourth season.
USS Voyager encounters an alien race which live their natural lives asleep and who interfere with the crew's journey by trapping them all in a collective dream. The aliens fear creatures who are awake and have planned retaliation. First, a few crewmen cannot awaken, then the aliens attack. They take over the ship, or so it seems.
Chakotay uses lucid dreaming techniques practiced by his people to escape the collective unconscious. With chemical assistance provided by the Doctor he manages to stay awake long enough to awaken one of the aliens. He threatens to destroy the entire chamber unless his people are freed. The aliens allow Voyager to go on their way.
