Walter Jenny

Walter William Jenny Jr. is an attorney and community activist in Edmond, Oklahoma. He is currently serving as Secretary of the Oklahoma Democratic Party and is Assistant General Counsel of the Oklahoma Department of Labor.

Jenny was born in Shawnee, Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma on March 14, 1957. His parents are Walter and Eula Mae (Hink) Jenny. An older sister, Charlotte, is a psychiatrist living in Norman, Oklahoma Jenny attended Robert E. Lee Elementary School in Shawnee, and graduated from Shawnee High School in 1974 at the age of 16. He then attended the University of Oklahoma from 1974 to 1977, where he served three elected terms in the Student Congress and was an unsuccessful candidate for president of the Student Association. He also played cello in the University Symphony Orchestra, wrote for the Oklahoma Daily student newspaper, and was initiated into Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) Fraternity on April 2, 1977. Jenny transferred to the University of Oklahoma, where he lived in the TKE Fraternity house and obtained his bachelor's degree in political science in 1978. Upon returning to Oklahoma, he attended Oklahoma City University School of Law, where he received his Juris Doctor in December 1982. He received the American Jurisprudence award in administrative law, and received the highest grade in the class in labor law. He passed the bar exam in Oklahoma in 1983, and was sworn in to practice law on April 22, 1983. During and after law school, Jenny worked for the Pierce Couch Hendrickson Johnston & Baysinger law firm from 1980 to 1983. He was a judicial intern for Justice Marion P. Opala in 1982. After law school, he worked for the Lawter & Pitts law firm for two years, then went into private practice in preparation for running for the Oklahoma House of Representatives in 1986.
