WAMA

WAMA (Arabic:واما) is an Egyptian boy band. They are four young men. All of them majored in music: Mohammed Nour, Nader and Ahmed Fahmi and Ahmed El Shami. All graduated from the Egyptian Consevetoire. In 1998, is when the story started. The boys were originally friends before they even started the band. Mohammed and Ahmed Fahmi decided to actually start a band on their own; however, Nader and Ahmed El Shamee confronted them and asked to join the band.
In 1999, the boys came up with the name WAMA. WAMA, as the boys claim, stands for the initials of their nicknames. They started composing and writing their own songs. Their first song was "Hobha Gowa alban" "Her love is in two hearts" was based on a true story that occurred to Mohamed and Fahmi; they say they actually liked the same girl.
In 2003, "Ya Leil" was the hit that they released. The album was a major success in the Middle East. The band faced some harsh criticism at first; some people claimed that they were imitating the Backstreet Boys in their first video. Their latest hit in 2006 is "Zay Ma Bahlem Beek" "As I dream of you" directed by Karim Abou Zeid who also directed the hit single "Kan Nefsi" released on October 2005. At the same time, Mohammed has released an album too.
