Wanamaker, Indiana is a small rural community located in the southeast corner of Marion County, Indiana, and has been included into the city of Indianapolis.It is the anchor of Franklin Township.

Wanamaker and its surrounding areas are seeing dense suburban land development from the outward expansion of Indianapolis. The developments have enveloped large amounts of farmland in the region. This is due to developers paying hefty amounts of money to local farmers for their land. This region is know historically as a rural area. There have been civic efforts to maintain a rural atmosphere in the area.
Some locals find the recent development to be burdensome because of increased property taxes to fund public school development.

The community was named for John Wanamaker, who was the United States Postmaster General. There is some knowledge of the Wanamaker family living for a short time in Indiana but they returned to Philadelphia.
