Talk:Warped Tour
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This article was once listed on Wikipedia:Votes for deletion with the following comments. I removed it after a significant rewrite of the article.
- Warped Tour some strange article which is about some punk tour and opens Warped Tour is a tour of punk bands of the people who's been touring for the year. Linked pages were blanked by me now have been deleted by G-Man. The remaining article are not remotely encyclopædic. They should be deleted. FearÉIREANN 20:38 14 Jul 2003 (UTC)
- It's a fairly well-known event that's been happening for nearly a decade now, so I think it deserves an article (though surely a more encyclopedic one). It's no Woodstock, but it's on par with Lollapalooza. --Delirium 01:04 15 Jul 2003 (UTC)
- I agree with Delirium, it should be kept. It is a significant cultural event that should appear in Wikipedia. As well as going to North America, the tour has also been to Australia and New Zealand so has a semi-global appeal. It needs a more encyclopedic article and doesn't really need seperate pages for each year. Popsracer 07:57 15 Jul 2003 (UTC)
- The linked pages consisted of just the list of bands who played on the tour; this would be best placed in the article page, yes? Or perhaps even on the relevant year in music page? -- Jim Regan 20:29 15 Jul 2003 (UTC)
- Sooooooo many bands have played Warped Tour in the past, that to put them all on one page, would make it look bad. Having it separated by year works better. Also, having one lsit of bands that have played in the past doesn't work either. Say I was looking for a certain lineup in '02. I could just go and see the lineup under the serparate article Warped Tour 2002, you know?
I personally think it should be further organized, maybe even by stage for the the years 05 & 06.
As far as I know, "Bill Cosby"/"Count Chocula"/"Muprhy Brown"/"Domo-Kun"/"Tony Danza"/etc. are neither bands nor on the Warped Tour, so I have deleted them (as I figure it's vandalism). If I'm wrong, I've very sorry. --TheSock 02:25, August 23, 2005 (UTC)
I removed the Local H reference in the sentence describes bands that were on the tour before they made it big, seeing as Local H never actually made it big.

[edit] bands
take note that the following bands are spelled this way EXACTLY:
hellogoodye boysetsfire
this is to remove any confusion and useless edits of their names.Myxomatosis 23:54, 24 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Logo copyvio
The image *was* from Warped tour but they have since changed it to 'Vans Warped Tour '04' and 'Vans Warped Tour '05' and so forth. I've changed the image page to reduce the confusion. Thanks.
[edit] Lists
Are there any objections to making seperate lists for previous bands and '05 bands? (But perhaps leaving '06 since it's current.)
- Definitely not! I was looking to doing it as well but I've been working on other projects here. If you can you are more than welcome to start it. It would help out a lot. -Myxomatosis 09:10, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

- I was looking at this page as something I could possibly clean up to make it look a little more like an real entry. I can do this and add past line-ups. -- vi 00:24, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
Sure. We need a better logo as well. We have the line-up from 2005 and previous bands as well. You are more than welcom to make changes. --Myxomatosis 10:02, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
- I noticed those pages as well. I started drafting up a display table last night and was playing with the layout to make it less scrollable and lengthy. I am actually hoping tomorrow we will know the stage assignments for this year. If someone could coordinate me past stage assignments (Ernie Ball, ect... then the display would make more sense and be more historical in design). I'll be online again this evening and can coordinate the effort via my talkpage. -- vi 17:32, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Copeland
I heard that Copeland is playing Warped Tour. is that true? Mgh0208 posted by:67.190.253.171
No, most likely not. they are writing an album as we speak. -Myxomatosis 08:47, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Alkaline Trio '06
Is Alkaline Trio on the 2006 Warped Tour? Somebody told me they were, and it's not listed on this site... posted by:Mgh0208
They are not confirmed. I highly doubt it. -Myxomatosis 08:47, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
They were briefly listed as being on the tour by Spin. It was quickly retracted, though. Sorry, I'm not signed in.
[edit] Fall Out Boy
I thought FOB was on this tour but they are not listed.Am I wrong?
- No. Band's pretty much never play back to back on the tour. They don't want the line-up to be the same. -Myxomatosis 06:52, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Hip Hop and Rap?
Which bands are hip hop or rap that are on the tour this year? I did not hear any when I went June 15.--Wehwalt 14:37, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
- Gym Class Heroes. Myxomatosis 06:23, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
-
- OK, granted. But that music isn't a big point of the Tour, so I have changed "showcased" to "include".--Wehwalt 07:37, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Bands Kicked Off Of WT
Alternative Press magazine made a list of "12 Reasons Why Bands Get Tossed Off Of Warped Tour" but was kind enough not to mention the names of the bands that committed some acts. Some of them Ive been able to uncover who they are, but some not.
Here's a list that AP made, and I am hoping that once all the bands have been identified we can edit the main page to add all these bands, because frankly its interesting as heck.
1) While onstage, make fun of the headlining bands most attendees came to see - Guttermouth
2) Beat the living hell out of a rival MC from your hometown. - D12 and Esham was the rival MC
3)Get into a fist fight with Good Charlotte. - Aeffect
4) Start a food fight and let it progress into fisticuffs with a venue security officer. - Unwritten Law
5) Secretly print and manufacture counterfeit laminates so your friends get in free. - Emery
6) Using Warped's name to try and get free stuff from sponsers.
7) Have your lead singer light his testicles onstage, directly in front of law-enforcement officials. - Treephort
8) Let your howmtown fans get so rowdy, they destroy the stage.
9) Talk smack about Wapred onstage in frong of Kevin Lyman. - The Lawrence Arms
10) If by chance you sell a lot of records during your stint on a sidestage, demand that Lyman demotes a mainstage band so yours can "rightfully" play.
11) Use Warped Tour's PA cabinets to hide your weed before crossing into Canada. - The Benjimans
12) Piss your pants in frotn of a newspaper photographer and let the media circus ensue. The Mean Reds
--eowynmorgan
- 9) Talk smack about Warped onstage in frong of Kevin Lyman. - I think this is The Lawrence Arms. Their singer, Brendan Kelly made this statement in an interview (linked to at the bottom of his article I think)
- "Bobby: Okay, I like that answer. So have you guys ever done it? I’m assuming you never will?
- Brendan: We did like seven days of it and we got kicked off it, banned for life.
- Bobby: For what? What were you doing?
- Brendan: Just, you know, pointing out the obvious flaws of the Warped Tour, on stage while the people running the Warped Tour were watching us. So it didn’t go over very well." --Dpotts86 06:13, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
- Addition: Death by Stereo were also kicked off for a few days, fter some incident involving Kris Martinez claiming that one of them had attacked her. This was 2002 warped, and they have not been back since. See the song 'i wouldnt piss in your ear if your brain was on fire' from Into the Valley of Death.

- Someone deleted that the laminate thing might be Scary Kids Scaring Kids. It wasn't. Their crime was lending their laminates to friends. I was at the San Diego show, backstage, after the show, and very specific signs were put up explaining exactly what they did and that any repetition, by anyone, would mean expulsion from the tour. If you doubt my bona fides, go look at the Backstage Pass article. That's my laminate illustrating it (click on the photo and see who illustrated it.--Wehwalt 21:54, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Dimbag
seeing how as dimebag is dead...i doupt that he's playing this year. Unless i don't understand something. Violask81976 23:26, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
- I'm doing my best to keep crap off the band list. It is not easy.--Wehwalt 00:37, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] there's your citation
wanker!
Yeah, fine. But if you are going to allege a rape happened on Warped, you need to back up your sources. People use WP for various things, not always legit. Tearing down people and things is common. People could read that there are rapes on Warped here and not allow their kids to go. You sourced it, that is fine. But since there was no proven rape, I modified it very slightly to "allegedly" If a court every finds there was a rape, then the allegedly should be removed because the allegation was proven. It hasn't been yet.--Wehwalt 14:20, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] 10,000 to 30,00 What?
"The venue size ranges from 10,000 to 30,000. "
What exactly are we talking about in this sentence? People, square feet, et cetera? It doesn't make sense. --These7enthprophet 18:26, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
- Will "capacity" satisfy you? I think that would nail things down nicely.--Wehwalt 18:39, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
- Satisfy? All I did was ask a question and I wasn't going to edit it myself without knowing the answer. Sorry I inconvenienced you, but I was almost certain that the talk page feature was put in for a reason. Anyway, the answer does make more sense than what was in the original article. --These7enthprophet 07:27, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
- No big deal, but I think it was clear from context. But WP is always amenable to well meaning improvement.--Wehwalt 15:01, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Extra Ten Minutes Contest
Okay, the contest is mentioned at the beginning of the article and I added that From First to Last won the contest every day of the tour in 2006. I also put in that they were unable to perform because Sonny had vocal problems. What I don't get is why it's being deleted. I'ts a big deal, that they won the contest EVEY SINGLE DAY of the tour over all the other bands headlining over them and stuff. I think that's pretty significant, because no band has ever done it on Warped Tour. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Arson5000 (talk • contribs) 23:00, 10 March 2007 (UTC).
- The thing is, you can't prove it because they withdrew before the contest ended. So the most you could say was "leading in". And besides, they didn't. Ballot boxes got stuffed for several bands, like "So They Say" in Massachusetts.--Wehwalt 10:47, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
- In addition, this information appears in the lead section of the article. The best practice is to give the reader broad outlines about the subject. What you propose gets a little too trivial as well.--Wehwalt 18:34, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
Okay, but they were huge leaps ahead and were going to win. I guess it would be better in a trivia secion or something. What do you mean ballot boxes got stuffed?
- Probably better in the 2006 Warped Tour Bands article. As for the ballot box stuffing, I doubt if "So They Say" won for the Fitchburg MA show because of popularity! Even though they got the Energizer ten minutes, they stayed on the Ernie Ball stage. Means to me that the tour didn't think so either.--Wehwalt 19:31, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
Well, with Warped Tour, it doesn't matter who wins the extra ten minutes. If you win it, it doesn't upgrade you to a bigger stage or something. And it's probably ture that someone could go and vote for a band a million times and make them win, because the Energizer contest let you vote over and over. So, if So They Say actually really won, it didn't matter that they were a small band, they stayed on the Smartpunk Stage.
[edit] what happened?
