Washington Singer Stakes
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Washington Singer Stakes is a Listed flat horse race in the United Kingdom for two-year-old thoroughbreds run over a distance of 7 furlongs (1,408 metres) at Newbury Racecourse in mid August.
Named for philanthropist and prominent horseman, Washington Singer, it has been won by several subsequent classic winners, perhaps most notably Lammtarra, the winner of the 1995 Epsom Derby, who made his debut here. Other future stars to emerge from this race include Rodrigo de Triano and Haafhd, who both went on to win the 2,000 Guineas the following season.
