"Wasted" is Carrie Underwood's sixth single from her multi-platinum debut Some Hearts.
The single began receiving country radio airplay as an album track, causing it to place on the US Country chart weeks before its official release as a single.
On January 2007, Underwood filmed the video for the song in Tampa, FL. This is now her fourth music video, and it was released during the beginning of February. The music video premired on CMT Loaded.com. Critics are hailing it as the best video and song that Underwood has released thus far.[citation needed]
Underwood performed the song on American Idol on March 8, 2007, after they paid her a tribute for her achievements since winning Idol in May 2005.
[edit] Song meaning
"Wasted" deals with themes of alcoholism. The song has two characters who each have to stop the addiction from taking over their lives. The lyrics read "I don't want to spend my life jaded, waiting to wake up one day and find that I've let all these years go by wasted." The song has so far peaked at number 6 on the Country Airplay Chart on allaccess.com and at number 6 on the Billboard Hot Country songs.
[edit] Music video
For Underwood's fourth music video from her debut album Some Hearts, she appears in different sceneries, such as simply a house, a beach, and what it appears to be woodland. An actor is also featured in the video, who fits the character dealing with the theme of the song. The music video is in complete black & white format, and it was released in early February, sooner than expected, thanks to the song's radio success. A shortened version of the song is used in the video, cutting out nearly a full minute of the song.
[edit] Chart Performance
Underwood's fifth single from her debut album has been making constant progress on the Hot Country Songs chart ever since it started receiving airplay in late 2006. It entered the Top 15 before releasing an official music video. It has also become Underwood's 4th consecutive top 5 hit on the Hot Country Songs chart, jumping 6-3 the week of March 31st. The song received a big amount of digital downloads on the iTunes music store after her performance of the song on American Idol. The song has reached a peak of #2 on the iTunes Country Top 100 Songs, placed just behind her single "Before He Cheats". "Wasted" it's placed at #29 on the iTunes General top 100. Thanks to the amount of downloads, the song took a jump on the Billboard Hot 100 chart to reach a new peak of #39.
