[edit] Documentation
{{subst:User:Wayne Miller/Templates/Doctl}}
inserts boilerplate for consistent documentation of a template on its own Talk page. Once inserted, it must be edited to include specific information.
This template is a modified version of Template:Doctl.
[edit] Usage
{{subst:User:Wayne Miller/Templates/Doctl}}
- Save the Talk page. Do not use preview. You must save in order to make the wikitext with the substitutions available for editing.
- Re-edit the Talk page. Below Documentation give a clear statement of the purpose of the template you are documenting. In the section Usage adjust the number of parameters and explain what each one does. If your template takes no parameters, delete that word. Note that the Usage section makes use of HTML entities; be careful editing between them. Finally edit or remove the Example section. Keep the self-reference in See also, it offers links to the edit history etc.
[edit] Example
This talk page is an example how it works.
Use the talk page of a sandbox like Template:X4 (edit talk links history) to check the unedited output of {{subst:doctl}}
.
