Whipple Museum of the History of Science

The Whipple Museum of the History of Science, founded in 1944, is the science museum of the University of Cambridge, located in Free School Lane. The museum holds a world-class nationally "designated collection" of scientific instruments, models, photographs, and artifacts relating to scientific exploration and discovery, including instruments used at the University as far back as the 16th century.
The museum is open to the public on weekday afternoons from 12.30pm to 4.30pm and admission is free.

The University's Department of History and Philosophy of Science is based in the Whipple Museum building and the collection is used by staff and students for both teaching and research.
