[edit] Offer of help

[edit] Bessler made look like a fake but Free Energy movement likes him

Hi! I saw you removed the paragraph saying that Bessler might not have been a fake, but he invented his wheel according ot some to us unknown natural principle. Satelites indeed steal gravitational energy from planets, and it is not excluded that we'd be able to prove Bessler's wheel or some other mechanism is capable of borrowing energy from Earth's rotation or other grav source.

This far the article describes Bessler as a complete fake, which is not neutral compared to Free Energy movement members who think he is genuine. It is not proven Bessler is a fake, so Wikipedia should presume him innocent and report in a more NPOV style. Neutral point of view. -- Mtodorov 69 22:53, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Articles for deletion

Hi, just to let you know that when leaving a vote for an article for deletion, you should do so on the appropriate AfD page, not on the article itself. There is usually a link to this in the AfD notice. For Howdy radio, the place to put your vote is Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Howdy_radio. I've moved your vote for you for this article. All the best Martinp23 19:54, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Writing technologies

You make a good point. I didn't think the article warrented speedy deletion, but I wasn't familiar enough with the other articles to suggest a merge (what's the correct tag for an article that needs to be deleted because it's a repeat?) Perhaps one of use should warn the new guy. I just can't stand it when they indent. Czolgolz 17:46, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] List of similarities between Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy

Just a note to let you know the article has been completely rewritten in the time since you voted on AfD. dryguy 16:02, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ricky Bishop

Many thanx 4 your message. I have sent an email to United Friends and Families Campaign (i must create that page when i have time!!) http://www.uffc.moonfruit.com/ to request permission to use the text. Hopefully they will reply to permissions in a few days - I hope thats OK. Thanks again. Paki.tv 01:34, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Burns stanza

Hi: apologies for not noticing that the Habbie stanza article was already extant. I think, however, that i may be better to redirect from Habbie stanza to Burns stanza, rather than vice versa (as it is at the moment). In all the mentions of the verse form I've ever seen it is referred to as the Burns stanza. What do you think. --Jim (Talk) 13:31, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

I'm not eminently qualified yet, and I may not ever be if I don't stop editing Wikipedia articles and get on with my dissertation :-) ! But I think I am right, and will move the content to Burns stanza when I get a chance.

[edit] Boy Meets Grill

Unless you are going to expand it, I feel that the prod should be there. It was in hopes that the articles creator would have taken the time to expand it. I feel that if someone is going to start an article they should at least make it of suitable length. Yes there should be an article on Boy Meet Grill, but it's only two lines and worthy of it being kept around. Mr. C.C. 03:41, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Mau, India

I just saw the page Viluppuram District which also has content from the NIC website and has receieved a copyvio tag. IrfanAli 21:46, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Chumby AfD

Would you change your vote now that there are many (5+) independent sources for the chumby [1]? About the genericization, it's almost - yes I said "almost" occuring. There aren't phrases like "chumby it" yet. Probably because it's not for sale retail yet. It's certainly not a hoax. This is the last of WP:CORP that needs to be met.--x1987x(talk) 17:26, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

The product is so "out in left field" there is nothing similar. It's in a category all to it's own with no competitors so genericization is not really expected. Who else has a "beside computer." Would you please change your vote or explain why you have kept your stance? Thank you. --x1987x(talk) 23:50, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] request for immediate help

This is a request for immediate help from Kmaguir1 07:24, 30 August 2006 (UTC). If you have time, I'd like you to examine the Bell Hooks article and talk page. It's a scholarly article about a controversial writer, someone who drew the ire of a conservative commentator. They wanted me to go get the quote from her book, and I did that. But now, they're arguing it's not notable. As a fellow AfD frequenter, you will know that of all the meaningless academic trivia included on her page, that what they wanted to exclude was really ridiculous: that she says as an opening to her book, Killing Rage, "I am writing this essay sitting beside an anonymous white male that I long to murder". This may in itself be notable, but David Horowitz wrote about it in 100 Dangerous Professors, and it was written about on front page mag, and all the citations are given on the page. I would appreciate your help--I'm contending with some very difficult Marxists who are attached to her work, and think that they're defending the liberal cause, but really, they're just keeping out material that is very easily notable.-Kmaguir1 07:24, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Greetings. In the interest of disclosure, I'd like to inform you of a conduct RfC on Kmaguir1. It's here: Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment/Kmaguir1. If you have time and are so inclined, feel free to provide comments there. Meanwhile, if you go to the bell hooks page, please do join in the discussion. If you read the Talk page and look at my and others' edit histories, you'll see that the picture is not quite as Kmaguir1 paints it. (I have no idea who the Marxists are he's referring to, and I've also edited his text for improvement, and left it in the article, vs. what he's saying here.)
Bottom line: welcome to bell hooks, be aware of the RfC, and feel free to join it. Cheers,--Anthony Krupp 17:26, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] B-36 Peacemaker Museum

In response to your comments on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/B-36 Peacemaker Museum, there is a big difference between Napolean Bonaparte and an obscure museum in Texas that only exists on the internet, has never been opened and gave away its primary artifact that it was founded to restore. It won't break my heart if the article is retained, but I just don't feel that it can really be called a museum in its current state. Thanks. --rogerd 16:33, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikification

As a trusted member of the WP:WWF, can I ask you to take a look at the contributions of User:JubalHarshaw? His idea of wikifying is adding one or two wikilinks to an article of 5, 6 paragraphs and adding a generic "Overview" section header. I've restored some of the tags on "wikfications" he has made, but I was wondering if you'd take a look to see if there's some you think are dubiously wikified. Someone brought this up to him a few weeks ago and he said that he would only add links when it "would be relevant, in context, or provide more information that may add to the understanding of the article" but I don't think that just one wikilink in an article of thousands is the way to do it. Would you take a look at this? Thanks, Metros232 15:02, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi! I got your message. I didn't know I'd become a trusted member of the wikification project! :) I only had a quick look a at a few of the edits User:JubalHarshaw made recently, and they seem okay to me. The degree to which additional links are added does't have hard and fast rules. What one person might consider relevant to add as a link, others might not. I might have added a couple more here or there but I don't see a huge problem with what he has done. Are there particular articles that you felt are of concern? Regards. --Whpq 16:19, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
Lansing Crusaders with its one wikilink comes to mind and its generic "overview" header. And Dummy rummy with one wikilink for an article of that length seems pretty unwikified. Those are just a couple that I've stumbled upon. Lake Lansing is another one too. It has two wikilinks but about six external links imbedded in the article. Metros232 16:44, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
You could have brought these directly to me. I would have happily taken your suggestions on how to improve my wikification. Is "Overview" a bad header for a simple overview of the topic at hand? For stubs? You should really give me a bit more detail on how I can improve. JubalHarshaw 02:26, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
Wikification is not just "wikilinks" ... please see my response on my talk page for a list of other tasks we deal with. I did a lot of work on the Dummy rummy pages as far as sectioning. What should I wikilink? Joker? Score? Meld? Rummy was already linked at the beginning to give a basic overview. JubalHarshaw 02:33, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
I have added a few more wikilinks to the above articles. Next time, perhaps bring your concerns directly to me if you feel something I have wikified is "dubiously wikified" ... tell me and I will make improvements. JubalHarshaw 04:57, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ian G. Walker

At Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ian G. Walker, you commented on the list of books in the article Ian G. Walker:

Delete - notability is doubtful, and references provided in the article appear to be books by the article's subject (hardly independeny sources).

I think the intention of the person who added the list of books was to establish Ian G. Walker as a published author. Accordingly, I have changed moved those books from References to Publications in the article. --TruthbringerToronto (Talk | contribs) 08:39, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wii Startup Disc

I noticed that you voted for delete on the AfD page of Wii Startup Disk. User:TJ Spyke has provided us with the following information: "In the new IGN Weekly (IGN Weekly Holiday 06), they have the final Wii box and take everything in it out. There was no startup disc there (they also re-confirm that Wii Sports will just come in the same cheap cardboard that Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt came in)." Please consider changing your vote to redirect, as this disc does not exist, and people may search for it and need a redirect. A consensus for this issue would be excellent. I feel that titles such as "The Story Unravels" and phrases such as "The bounced payroll checks, letters and phone calls to her father, Abraham Quintanilla, from disappointed fans were the wake-up call", "Selena apparently made up her mind", and "They quickly became friends" read more like a magazine and aren't completely factual sentances.

[edit] Re: Spanish F3

See Formula Three Euroseries for an example. It really needs to be brought up to at least that standard, and it is realistically achievable. Additionally, it is not appropriate to have a seperate article for the Copa F300 class, hence the merge review. I am currently developing Wiki's F3-related content, and I will be happy to contribute to the Spanish F3 article in due course. Adrian M. H. 23:03, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

We'll agree to differ on the formatting, but I still think that it is deficient: no proper introductory paragraph, no series infobox, poor wording, and the list should be a table. No references either. An unfinished mess, but I suppose just one of many. I've long list of things to do regarding F3, but I will get around to improving this article fairly soon. Adrian M. H. 15:56, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
I have since looked at your own Wikify project, and the article in question meets two of the three listed criteria for articles that need wikification. That surely qualifies it for a wikify tag? Adrian M. H. 16:08, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply, Whpq. I will give an outline of the requirements as you suggested. It will probably be attended to by me or another WP:MOTOR member. Adrian M. H. 16:41, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Round Earth Theatre Company

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Round Earth Theatre Company, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at its talk page. Removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, but the article may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. [edit] Half-diminished scale.

Hello, Whpq,

In reference to your question, first, let's clarify two terms: a diminished scale is one of alternating Tones and Semitones. (See Octatonic Scale). Second, a "half-diminished" chord is, in effect a minor seventh chord, flat 5 (e.g., C, Eb, Gb, Bb). Notice the intervals of this chord: min 3, min 3, min 3, and maj 3. This chord occurs naturally in the Locrian Mode (picture white keys only on a piano, with B treated as the "tone centre"). The resultant Tonic 7th chord is B, D, F. A. You will will find that the intervals of this chord correspond to "half-diminished" chord described above.

The octatonic scales may begin Tone-Semitone (what jazz musicians call the "whole-half" scale), or Semitone-Tone ("half-whole" scale). An octatonic (diminished) scale, built on B, and beginning Semitone-Tone ("half-whole") contains the notes B, D, F and A:

B(Cb), C, D, D#(Eb), F, F#(Gb), G#,(Ab), A, (B)(Cb).

In the half-diminished scale of B, since the the intervals are alternately evenly spaced, a half-diminished chord may also be built not only on the Tonic, B, but on every second note of the scale, resulting in these other half-diminished chords:

(D, F, Ab, C); (F, Ab, Cb, Eb); (G#, B, D, F#).

Because this diminished scale permits a Tonic "half-diminished" chord, it is therefore sometimes called the "half-diminished" scale. It can be built upon ANY of the twelve semitones of the octave. Consequently, any "half-whole" diminished scaled may be called a "half-diminished" scale.

It is a "general rule" of the diminished scales, that whatever kinds of chords can be build on one particular note of the scale can be also be built on alternate notes of the scale, the roots of which together form a diminished seventh chord. Since any octatonic scale consists of the culmination of two diminished seventh chords, two sets of "chord types" are available in any diminished scale.

Hope this has answered your question! Thank you for using wikipedia.

Regards, Prof.rick 08:14, 10 March 2007 (UTC) PS: A copy of this response has also be placed on my talk page.

I will also look into the "Half-Diminished Scales" article, first checking its accuracy and clarity. If warranted, I will try to establish a "Redirect" to "Octanonic Scales." Prof.rick 08:54, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Very confusing!

I agree, the article on the "half-diminished" scale is very confusing. It's very vague, and provides no useful information. If you check the article, half-diminished seventh chord, you will find that this chord can be found in three scale types (the one I gave you above is truly a scale...the other two are modes.

I've tried a bit of research on the so-called "half-diminished scale", and apparently it is pretty new term, and now widely accepted. It creates confusion between diminished scales and the Locrian mode. I did find another definition for a "half-diminished" scale, but it is simply the Locrian mode (mode VII of a major scale). Most musicians simply prefer to call this the Locrian mode, to avoid confusion with the diminished scales.

I can't see any point in merging it with another article. Perhaps it would be better to go to the Locrian Mode article, and simply add that it is sometimes called the "half-diminished" scale (even though most musicians don't use the term). Prof.rick 07:19, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Roy McWeeny

Thank you for drawing my attention to a possible copy-vio on this article. It most certainly is not a copy violation of [2] as in November 2005 when this article was written with that material, McWeeny had not been awarded the Spiers Memorial Medal. The medal was actually given to him in September 2006 and the decision was taken in early 2006, not in 2005. I did start that article when I first joined WP but I do not recall copying from anything else. It is possible that I did being a raw newbie then, or it is possible that the RSC copied from Wikipedia. I'll try to check out other sources that the RSC might have copied it from but that might take a time. Could you revert the copy-vio blanking for now and just add a warning? I do take this seriously and will look at it over the weekend. --Bduke 01:00, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I'll remove blanking, and make a note in the article talk page. I had checked your edit history when I came across this, and copying a web page didn't look like the sort of thing you would have done, and considered contacting you first. I guess I should have goen that route first. Regards. -- Whpq 16:25, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
