Wikibombing
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Wikibombing - In an acedemic setting this term refers to the over use or use of Wikipedia as an only source for an acedemic paper or studying for an exam at the college level. Most often the student will not follow up on the refrenced sources and will quote the Wikipedia entry directly. This phenomena has been observed not only by instructors but also students. This is often done at the expense of class materials, or lectures. This term has no association to other similar words that refer to the false entry of items on Wikipedia in order to "Spin" an entry for profit or to spread a malicious rumor. Other similar terms wikibomb,wiki-BlitzKrieg, google-bomb. This term is not to be critical of Wikipedia, but describes a common misuse or over reliance of Wikipedia.
