The aspiration of this project is to make Wikipedia both an authoritative guide to economics for general readers interested in understanding economic problems and concepts and an encyclopedic source of technical information comparable in quality to such works as the Palgrave Dictionary of Economics

The goals of this project are to:

Provide guidelines, recommendations, and standards for articles related to the field of economics and the many related subtopics
Provide overarching conceptual frameworks to ensure that articles are mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive, including navigational devices and knowledge taxonomy, as needed
Provide a forum for discussing topics related to articles about the field of finance

Economics is the study of how households, markets, governments and societies allocate resources, deciding what will be produced and how it will be distributed. Economics provides the theoretical basis for applied fields such as accounting, business and finance. Within Wikipedia, economics has been part of the Business and Economics wikiproject, but as a major social science, it warrants its own wikiproject.
