[edit] Introduction
The following is a template for herb and spice articles, which does not exist yet, to the best of my knowledge. Some pages look like they would make a good starting template, for example basil with it's nice table, although this follows some sort of botany template I think, which is troublesome...should there be two pages for Basil then? Once called Basil (herb) and one called Basil (plant)? For spices it is necessary for have a unique because most spices are not an entire plant, but are just a part of a plant, like the seeds or the root, or bark, etc... Although we could apply this same logic to herbs...you don't use the entire basil plant for spicing up a sauce, you just use the dries leaves, and for pesto, just the fresh leaves. So I propose to have two separate pages, one describing the plant, and one describing just the part of the plant and its use as an herb/spice.

First, an important note for everyone to remember:
A few Wikipedians have gotten together to make some suggestions about how we might organize data in articles about Herbs and Spices. These are only suggestions, things to give you focus and to get you going, and you shouldn't feel obligated in the least to follow them. But if you don't know what to write or where to begin, following the below guidelines may be helpful. Mainly, we just want you to write articles!
[edit] Title
The title of this WikiProject is WikiProject Herbs and Spices
[edit] Scope
This WikiProject Herbs and Spices aims primarily to provide a consistent article structure for herbs and spices articles so that Wikipedia can become the true online spice bible, since most web sources out there are very scattered and there is no one true source...many of them say different things depending upon the nationality and experience of the author, and other factors. Eventually this comprehensive information could all move over to the Wikibook:Cookbook.
