[edit] Scope
This WikiProject aims to add, improve and monitor articles concerning Russian History in all periods.
[edit] Open Tasks
- Place the Russian History WikiProject banner on the DISCUSSION (aka "TALK") PAGE of every Russian history related entry. How to do this:
- Go to this page: Category:History of Russia. This page will not have all Russian history related pages, but is a good place start.
- Open a Russian History related page (most won't have banners yet).
- Open the "Talk" page by hitting the tab at the top of the window.
- If the banner is there, do nothing. If not, open the page for editing by hitting the "Edit" tab at the top of the Talk page.
- Copy this text "{{WikiProject Russian History}}" to the top of the page.
- Hit the "Save" button at the bottom of the page.
A list of all pages currently with this banner can be found at Category:WikiProject Russian History.
- Place stub templates ({{Russia-hist-stub}}). How to do this:
- While placing the banner on Russian history related pages, you may find articles that are very short. These are called "stubs." They are in effect place holders waiting for complete entries. In effect, a stub says "We need more information about this topic."
- When you find a stub, open the page for editing by hitting the "Edit" tab.
- Copy the text "{{Russia-hist-stub}}" to the bottom of the page.
- Hit the "Save" button at the bottom of the page.

[edit] Categories
The existing categories used to tag Russian history content are a bit of a mess. I (MP) suggest we begin our work by simply collecting what's out there in Wikispace and tagging it with the "History of Russia" category. See task one below. That will give us a good impression of what sorts of category hierarchies (temporal, geographic, national) are currently being employed. Once we are done with that, we can rationalize existing categories, e.g.,
- History of the East Slavs
- History of Russia
- East Slavic Migrations to Rus'
- (etc.)
- Kievan Rus'
- Foundation of Rus'
- East Slavic Migrations to Rus'
- History of Russia
