Will Parry is one of the protagonists in Philip Pullman's novel The Subtle Knife, along with Lyra Belacqua. He is first introduced into the series in the second novel; "The Subtle Knife" and is also in the final part of the trilogy "The Amber Spyglass", however he does not appear in the first novel Northern Lights (The Golden Compass in North America).
Will Parry is son of John Parry, an explorer and Elaine Parry, a woman who suffers from apparent mental problems including some kind of obsessive-compulsive disorder and paranoia. Will doesn't remember his father, a former Royal Marine, who has not been heard of since he vanished on an expedition to the Arctic, and who we later learn has wandered into another world and is unable to find his way back.
Will has to take care of his mother until one day some strange agents come to his house. He eventually decides that he must leave her with his former piano teacher, Mrs. Cooper, and flees himself - accidentally killing one of the agents as he makes his escape. He accidentally finds a strange portal to the city of Cittàgazze in another world, in which he meets Lyra Belacqua, a girl from yet another world, a girl with whom he will end up falling in love. Will plays a pivotal role in the war that Lord Asriel and the angels wage against The Authority.
When he becomes the bearer of The Subtle Knife he loses two fingers of his left hand.
After being separated from Will during the journey to the world of the dead, his soul becomes visible as a dæmon. Upon reuniting with Will, she is named Kirjava by Serafina Pekkala. Kirjava's name is Finnish for "multi-colored". At the end of the trilogy, Kirjava settles in the shape of a large, subtly-colored cat.
Will has been described as having straight black eyebrows, black hair, a strong, jutting jaw, and can often have a passionate ferocity in his eyes, which the witch Serafina Pekkala says she had not dared to look into.
