William Cavendish-Bentinck, 7th Duke of Portland

William Arthur Henry Cavendish-Bentinck, 7th Duke of Portland KG (1893-1977), the elder son of the 6th Duke of Portland, was the 2nd Chancellor of the University of Nottingham.
The 7th Duke was married to Ivy Gordon-Lennox, a descendant of Charles Lennox, 1st Duke of Richmond, an illegitimate son of King Charles II by his French mistress Louise de Keroualle.
He was the Conservative member of Parliament for Newark in Nottinghamshire from 1922 until his elevation to the peerage in 1943.
At his death, Welbeck Abbey which had been entailed upon his father (and his heirs male) by the reclusive 5th Duke, passed to his elder daughter Lady Anne Cavendish-Bentinck (b. 1916) who is unmarried. His younger daughter Lady Margaret Parente had died 1955, leaving one son William Henry Marcello Parente (b. 1951), of Welbeck Abbey, Welbeck, Worksop, Notts, who was High Sheriff for Nottinghamshire in 2003-2004.
The dukedom passed to a distant cousin, and then to his brother, whose only son had died without issue. The dukedom became extinct 1990; the earldom of Portland is currently held by the actor Tim Bentinck.
