William Emmet Simms

William Emmet Simms (January 2, 1822 – June 25, 1898) was U.S. Congressman and later a prominent Confederate politician during the American Civil War.
He was born in Harrison County, Kentucky. He fought in the Mexican-American War and served in the Kentucky legislature from 1849 to 1851. Simms represented Kentucky in the United States House of Representatives from 1859 to 1861. He later served briefly as a colonel in the Confederate Army before being elected to the Confederate States Senate, where he served as a solon from Kentucky from 1862 to 1865.
