William Prunier

William Prunier (born August 14, 1967 in Montreuil, France) is a French footballer, who plays in the centre back position.

A distinguished career in his native France saw spells at AJ Auxerre, Olympique Marseille and Girondins Bordeaux. He earned 1 cap for France in 1992.

Towards the end of his career, Prunier had a fleeting and forgettable tenure at Manchester United. Before this, however, he had a spell at Heart of Midlothian F.C. He joined the Old Trafford club on loan from Bordeaux amidst an injury crisis that saw the United squad bereft of experienced defenders. Prunier made his debut against Queens Park Rangers at the end of 1995 but added just one further appearance to his tally, his most notable contribution in a United shirt being a piledriver, roy of the rovers type shot that swerved and dipped but cracked the bar. Many observers have stated that had that shot gone in, his United career may have been extended. His last game was a humilating 4-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur which effectively ended his Manchester United career. He also saw an unprestigeous spell at FC København in Denmark. He is currently studying to become a football manager.

Recently appeared on Sky Sports (4 Feb 2007) giving an intro and his point of view on the 4-1 defeat against Tottenham Hotspurs in 1996 - his last game for Man Utd.
