Wipipedia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Wipipedia is a Web-based free-content encyclopedia about the fetish and BDSM lifestyle. It is "maintained by the fetish community for the fetish community," and is a wiki, written collaboratively by volunteers: anyone with a web browser and an Internet connection can create and edit articles, although editors must be logged in (anonymous edits are not allowed). The name derives from a portmanteau of "whip" and "Wikipedia". The site was begun in March 2005 by the creators of the London Fetish Scene website. The Wipipedia is also mirrored by the Informed Consent website, where it is known as the Encyclopervia.
Contents |
The Wipipedia has over 900 articles; it also includes advice, stories, and descriptions of real-life experiences by Wipipedians. The Wipipedia attracts about 10,000 page views per day. It attracts visitors from around the globe [1] and is quoted or referenced by other web sites.[2]
Just as there is some content in Wikipedia that has been sourced from Wipipedia, so there is content in Wipipedia sourced from Wikipedia. Where reference is made to more general topics in Wipipedia, it links to topics in Wikipedia. For readers interested in finding out more about the fetish BDSM lifestyle, Wipipedia has a system of categorisation and openly opinionated articles not found nor tolerated on Wikipedia.
Like Wikipedia, the content of Wipipedia is free, and released under the GFDL.
