Wistaston Junior School

Wistaston Junior School is a junior school in the village of Wistaston, near Crewe, Cheshire in north-west England. In September 2007 the school is to amalgamate with Wistaston Westfield Infants School which is situated on the same grounds.

The school has a good reputation in the Borough of Crewe and Nantwich, and has performed well in two Ofsted reports, in 1997 and 2001. In the 2006 School Achievement and Attainment tables, the school was the second best placed school in Crewe and Nantwich, and in the top 30 schools in Cheshire.
Fifty per cent of pupils come from outside the catchment area.
The school is a member of a Primary Strategy Learning Network, established in the school year 2005-2006. The network includes seven schools: Wistaston Junior School, the Berkeley Primary School, Weston Primary School, Shavington Primary School, Pebble Brook Primary School, Willaston Primary School and Wistaston Westfield Infants School.
Recent developments include an outdoor classroom, vegetable gardens, new playground markings, a Multimedia Suite, a new waiting area for parents and children, a playground extension, a tyre park and logging, a butterfly garden and a reading room.

There is one Higher Level Teaching Assistant (Mrs Sharon Valente), and three Teaching Assistants (Mrs Julie Aitken, Mrs Mary Bevington and Mrs Helen Aitken) working with the children. There are two teachers who cover PPA time in French and music, two secretaries and one caretaker.
In November 2006, Mrs Croft, the School Cook, collected an award for Most Improved Dinner Numbers from Cheshire Business Supplies.

In 2006, to celebrate the World Cup taking place in Germany, the school held its own World Cup Competition. Overall, 175 pupils (two-thirds) of the school, took part in the competition.

The school aims for the children to enjoy their break times by playing games and, particularly the older pupils, giving responsibilities.
The school has a good sized playground with colourful playground markings, a playground extension, a Quiet Area, a Friendship Stop, Tyres and Logging.
Phys Kids: Year Six pupils go over to the Infant School to organise playtime games for the children.
Break Time Buddies: Year Six pupils act as Buddies to the younger children, organising games, assisting Midday Assistants, and promoting happy and sensible behaviour.
Prefects: Year Six pupils monitor the behaviour of children inside the school at break times and ensure the children leave and enter the school sensibly.
