[edit] Discussion from WP:PUI
- Image:Wittgenstein2.jpg - A declaration concerning the copy right would be appreciated. -- Simplicius 00:44, 10 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- I was the last person to edit this image, I merely corrected a left/right transposition; I know nothing about its copyright status. The person who originally posted it Uri should know its origin and status. If doubt remains over this it should indeed be deleted. Chris Jefferies 13:04, 10 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- I've added a note on Uri's talk page, but I'm not sure if he's active on Wikipedia any more. Maybe we should just go ahead and delete the photo? Chris Jefferies 13:15, 10 Nov 2004 (UTC)
I tagged this as "Fairold", but more info on this image, or replacement with an image with better source info, would be better. -- Infrogmation 17:21, 21 Dec 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Unintentional revert
Uhh, I looked at this picture once, but I accidentally clicked on rev, reverting to a previous picture. I reverted it back to the current version, but then I accidentally pressed the back button, causing mayhem. I have reverted it back to the way I found it, and I am deeply sorry for any inconveniences that this has caused. IngSoc BigBrother 06:14, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
- No worries man, no harm done :) FranksValli 06:18, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Copyright status
Brian Carver at Berkeley was contacted by the Wittgenstein Archive [1] regarding the same picture he put up on his website, and the correspondence can be found here: [2]. I recommend reading the whole thing, or at least the very last letter. I'll just quite their final resolution here:
Finally, In order to resolve this whole issue I suggest the following: You put the photographs that were on your main Wittgenstein website back up (including the one on your personal website) and in return you provide a proper link from your website to ours. However, you don't put the picture gallery back up and in particular you don't provide pictures to others.
Yours sincerely

I think we should follow the same guideline: leave the picture up and provide a link to the Wittgenstein Archive's website. If this isn't good enough, let's contact the Wittgenstein Society themselves. In any case, let's not delete it right away, as there's good reason to think it's not necessarily violating copyright.
EDIT: Just found more info. The Austrian Ludwig Wittgenstein Society (ALWS) [3] is hosting the photo on their webpage with this comment: "We thank Dr. Elisabeth Leinfellner for having made available the originals of the Wittgenstein pictures to us." So if we are required to contact the Wittgenstein Archive but they don't reply, we have the option of contacting the ALWS for copyright clarification (alws@nextra.at).
