I don't know if it's necessary to note this, but technically, as per various sections of the Constitution, women from South Australia and Western Australia were able to vote in the first election. As is said in the articles, they did gain the right to vote and stand federally from 1902 onwards, but some voted before then.--Cyberjunkie | Talk 05:32, 18 September 2005 (UTC)
- I have this technicality covered in another unfinished article in my sandbox :), but I'll add a note here too. Although women from WA and SA could vote in 1901, were they able to stand for election in 1901?--nixie 05:51, 18 September 2005 (UTC)

- Not that I know of :). AFAIK, the sections relate only to franchise. At that time, only South Australian women had the right to political candidacy anyways - the other states only granted it between 1915 and 1923.--Cyberjunkie | Talk 06:03, 18 September 2005 (UTC)
