World Memory Championships

The World Memory Championships is an organized competition of mental sports in which competitors memorize as much information as possible within a given period of time [1]. The Championship has taken annually since 1990. The first winner was Dominic O'Brien.
In 2006 it took place in the Imperial College in London, England. About 40 international competitors took part, with all continents (except Antarctica) sending representatives. 2007s event will take place in Bahrain on August 31, September 1 & 2.
The World Championships consist of ten different disciplines, where the competitors have to memorize as much as they can in a period of time. Clemens Mayer from Germany won in 2006- his second consecutive victory. Ben Pridmore from Derby, England is currently ranked as number one in the world ranking list.
American author Joshua Foer signed a 1.2 million dollar contract with Penguin Books for a book called Moonwalking with Einstein (expected for 2009). It is a novel about himself, winning the American Memory Championships and taking part in the World Memory Championships 2006.
