World Series Wrestling is a professional wrestling promotion, founded in 2005. It is most famous for hosting the International Assault tour in Australia. The roster is mainly made up of top independent circuit, TNA and recently released World Wrestling Entertainment, as well as some Australian talent. A second International Assault tour is finally in the works after a near two year wait.
[edit] History
In June 2005, World Series Wrestling announced that they would be promoting the International Assault tour, a special tour that would feature some of the most popular and talented wrestlers outside of the WWE, as well as the cities (Melbourne, Sydney and Newcastle).
In the coming months, the promotion would announce the roster and matches on the cards and featured advertising during WWE programs on FOX8. Tickets went on sale in August and proved to be a major disappointment. The shows, however, were not. Almost every one of the 6,000 people that attended the shows said the show was excellent.
The main draw for the International Assault tour was Mick Foley but close to the event he was called back to WWE on air as a wrestler on Monday Night RAW. This is often debated amongst fans of the tour as WWE generally lets newly contracted wrestlers complete their independent bookings before being used but later announced in PowerSlam magazine it was Foley's own choice not to attend. Jamie Noble and Matt Hardy were also advertised to appear but did not appear for unknown reasons.
After nearly two years another tour has finally been announced. International Assault 2 will be held in Sydney, Melbourne and Newcastle in eary June 2007 (check the website for details).
