Wrangaton railway station
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Wrangaton railway station was on the South Devon Railway, serving the village of Wrangaton in Devon, England. It also served as the railhead for Kingsbridge until a branch was opened to that town from Brent railway station on 19 December 1893.
The station was opened with the line on 5 May 1848, the only intermediate station between Totnes and the temporary terminus at Laira, but stations were opened at South Brent and Ivybridge within two months. From 1849 to 1893 the station was known as Kingsbridge Road, the old name being resumed when the Kingsbridge branch opened.
The South Devon Railway was amalgamated into the Great Western Railway on 1 February 1876. Another nearby station was opened on 18 November 1907 at Bittaford Platform.
The Great Western Railway was nationalised into British Railways on 1 January 1948. The station has since been closed.
