Wrathful Dispersion
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Wrathful Dispersion (WD) is a fictional theory of the origin of language, intended as a parody of intelligent design. It contends that the many human languages must have been deliberately separated by a “disperser”, rather than by the spontaneous changes currently assumed by historical linguistics.
The essay The Wrathful Dispersion controversy: A Canadian perspective first appeared on “Q. Pheevr's” blog A Roguish Chrestomathy on 2 December 2005.[1] It was later incorporated into Speculative Grammarian's January 2006 issue.[2] Links to the essay have appeared on many linguistics-related blogs and websites, including Language Log.
