Owned by Cumulus Media, WVNN is a 7,000 watt AM radio station in Athens, Alabama on the 770 frequency. It simulcasts on WVNN-FM, a 3,100 watt FM radio station licensed to Trinity, Alabama on the 92.5 frequency. It primarily serves the Huntsville, Alabama market, though it can also be heard in the Florence/Muscle Shoals market. Collectively, the stations are branded as NewsTalk 770 AM/92.5 FM WVNN.
The AM signal covers the northern-third of Alabama (and southern Middle Tennessee) during the day, though signal limitations prevent the station from penetrating any further than the Athens area after sunset. Due to FCC regulations, the station switches to a lower power at sunset (from a separate four tower array) in deference to WABC-New York (a clear channel station also occupying 770 AM).
The FM signal, which began simulcasting in April 2006, covers most of north-central Alabama and parts of southern Middle Tennessee, reaching as far east as Huntsville, as far west as Florence/Muscle Shoals, as far north as Pulaski, Tennessee, and as far south as Cullman County, Alabama. Per the nature of FM radio, the station may operate at full power 24 hours a day, expanding WVNN's reach at night by 20 miles in each direction.

[edit] Past programming
Many well known talk show hosts began at WVNN, including Sean Hannity, Peter Thiele, Kevin Miller, Keith Larson, Darla Jaye, and Mike Church.
[edit] History
The AM station, once called WJMW, was owned and operated by the Dunnavant family of Athens, Alabama, for over 50 years prior to being sold to Cumulus Media in 2003.
The FM station, which was previously signed WWXQ, was acquired by Cumulus Media from Clear Channel Communications in April 2006, as part of a two-station deal that also included 94.1 WXQW (which currently simulcasts Cumulus' WHRP). When owned by Clear Channel, the 92.5 and 94.1 signals were simulcasting an oldies music format.
