WZDC-LP is a low-power Telemundo affiliate in the Washington, DC area, located on channel 64. The station is owned by ZGS Broadcast Holdings.
[edit] History
Channel 64 signed on as W64BW on January 25, 1993, as Washington, DC's Telemundo affiliate. On December 1, 1995, the call letters were changed to WZGS-LP, reflecting the station's owner. On June 27, 2000, the call letters were changed to the current WZDC-LP.
On June 3, 2002, the station started a local Spanish newscast, in cooperation with WRC-TV.
[edit] Coverage Area
WZDC's transmitter is located in the Northeast region of the District of Columbia, broadcasting on an effective radiated power of 12.5 kilowatts; the station covers most, but not all of D.C., and is barely viewable outside the capital; it must rely on cable coverage to serve the surrounding areas. WZDC, however, has a construction permit to move to channel 25 and to increase power to 32 kilowatts, which would expand its coverage to include most of Prince George's County in Maryland.
