Talk:Xochimilco

[edit] Location
According to the Mexican constitution (art. 44) the Federal District and Mexico City are one and the same thing. Therefore it makes no sense to say that Xochimilco is one of the delegaciones of the Federal District and then that it is located south of Mexico City. Even though it was not part of Mexico City long ago, it has been absorbed by it, and at least administratively, it is part of Mexico City. --Alonso 03:55, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
- Quite possibly the original contributor's intention is to provide its location relative to Mexico City's central district, ie "Mexico City" is being used as shorthand for the city's centre.
- In any event, I think there'd be some value in splitting out material on the pre-columbian and modern-day settlements of this same name (each cross-referencing the other, naturally). Might do this once when I get a chance, unless there are strenuous objections.--cjllw | TALK 05:35, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
