I agree. There is absolutely nothing about the removal of the ability for Yahoo Users to create custom rooms. Yep. I'd suggest tying it into the abandon-ware Yahoo Messenger for non-windows users but I don't want to make it seem shrill. The reason why it happened is the continued tight integration with Microsoft. As a consequence of dropping Java chats, non-Windows users cannot participate in group chats. There's a business strategy at work however clumsy. Non-Windows users are not good enough to look at our ads seems to be a strange way to run a business, but so it goes.

In the old days (1998-1999) messenger was called "yahoo pager". Even today some dlls on windows have pager name in them.

Interesting blog. Just thought I would put this under the same header since it applies to the Mac version: I very much disagree with the comment about 3.0b1 in this wikipedia article. It is much more different from the old 2.5.3 version. It now supports setting your status to the current iTunes song, it has avatar/display picture support, and stealth mode, all "differences in a major sense" in my opinion. In addition, the beta readme that pops up on the first launch notes that the next beta will include voice chat support. This is a major milestone for the Mac client, yet the article makes it appear to be a tiny change. The Mac client is much, much closer to being on par with the Windows client now, even if it's only a beta version.

If it comes great, but until then it's not a milestone, it's press release. I also think that the features added are not major changes in functionality. They're nice, but hardly must have features. I removed this sentence from the article: Surprisingly, the BBC reported on August 5 2006 that "Download Yahoo messenger" was the sixth most likely search term to return links to malware. The sentence included this reference, but that article doesn't rank those search terms in any order. 192.127.94.7 10:06, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
