[edit] Favourite Novels
- The Dune series:
With the original Dune novel being my favourite, Frank Herbert's science fiction series tops my list of favourite novels. Not only is the story itself one of the greatest ever, Herbert's philosophy is amazing; his religious, social and political thinking one of the greatest I have ever known. If you have never read these books, I strongly advise you to.
Not as deep as the Dune series, but still a great read. I began reading these when I was twelve and have never lost interest. I am looking forward to the film adaptation, despite the changes made after church protests (which I believe may ruin the story).
Different from the Dune series and His Dark Materials in the sense that it lacks any (noticable) philosophical issues, but still a fantastic story. Every now and again it is useful to escape deep thoughts and reality; relaxing in the environment of fantasy and fiction. The film versions, I have to say, were a huge disappointment. The acting was terrible, the picture horrific and the story lacking the greatness of the original novels (more apparent in the later films as they discarded more and more of the book version).

I loved this film. I have always been interested in Greek mythology, and seeing the epic Trojan War on screen with such fantastic fighting (particularly Achilles) was awesome. Although not following Homer's Illiad as it is written, the changes made were needed for the film version, creating, in my opinion, the greatest movie ever.
My first experience of James Bond on the screen, and the one that has hooked me to the films ever since. Alec Trevelyan is my favourite character, which in turn has made Sean Bean one of my favourite actors. I haven't yet read the books, but one day I hope to have the time to enjoy them.
Suprisingly, I haven't yet seen this film, but has been added to this list purely by what I have heard of the movie. With philosophical and political issues shouting out from the screen, this movie makes a much needed change from the pointless action, sex and violence seen in many films today. I hope to see this film soon, and that its place in this list will remain.
[edit] Favourite TV Programs
This program is one of the greatest I have ever seen. The plot is original, the suspense is incredible and the program as a whole is amazing. My favourite characters are Sawyer, Locke and Mr. Eko.
The funniest cartoon on TV. Politically incorrect, this program helps escape the Big Brother-like attitude of government, saying whatever the writers want to say. Quick one-liners, long-running jokes and plain stupidity; what more could you ask for?

The only program I ever watch on TV (unless Lost is on). This show makes being a Doctor look like fun. Scrubs also has one of my favourite TV characters; Dr. Cox. The rants Dr. Cox uses are some of the greatest speeches I have ever seen. Here is an excerpt from one such rant:
...Yes, I did it, I'm a genius, I'm a huge brain in a ripped-up body; I am Jesus H. Cox, MD... Not until people start chanting my name so that I can exit the room in a victorious gesture with my hands held high above my head, because, you see, this diagnosing machine, this fabulous thing, well, it runs on props, so I'm going to have to hear it...
