Zeitgeist (Axel Cluney) is a fictional mutant character and superhero in the Marvel Comics Universe, a member of the second team of X-Force. Zeitgeist was created by Peter Milligan (writer) and Mike Allred (artist).
[edit] Fictional character biography
Axel Cluney remembered the first time his powers activated when he and his girlfriend Felicity were making out on a beach, and his power suddenly activated, burning his girlfriend's face off. It is clear she survived, as he was quoted as saying, "I sure hope the doctors managed to give her back her pretty face," indicating she was alive to actually receive medical attention.
Zeitgeist along with the other members of the team at that time entered their HQ. As he stepped out of his limo and greeted fans, a young Edie Sawyer touched his hand. He then entered the HQ. As the media and fans waved and took photos of Zeitgeist as he arrived at a movie premiere, Edie Sawyer once again entered his life when she accidentally teleported in front of him.
Sometime after Edie joined X-Force as U-Go Girl, Zeitgeist went to a club with her. Zeitgeist viewed the video footage of the North African mission where Sluk was killed, while lounging with some strippers in a hot tub (in a scene that provoked Marvel into dropping the Comics Code from their books). The next day, the team held a press conference to introduce Tike Alicar, the Anarchist, as their newest member to replace Sluk. Zeitgeist was later seen with the rest of the team suiting up for the next mission in New York. He was killed alongside Battering Ram when a helicopter fired a missile at the team.
[edit] Powers and abilities
Zeitgeist could spew acidic vomit from his mouth, and wore a protective mouthpiece in and out of costume. It was shown that his vomit could burn through 10cm thick steel in less than 30 seconds. His mouthpiece was made from unknown material similar to plastic but much stronger. He also possessed enhanced durability.
[edit] Notes
- Another Marvel character who went by the name Zeitgeist was Larry Ekler, AKA Everyman, a Captain America foe who asassinated superheroes[1]. He was killed by Hauptmann Deutschland.
