The Zire 31 is a Zire Handheld from Palm, Inc. It is an upgraded version of the Zire 21 and runs Palm OS. The product was first released in 2004. While the display is still 160x160, the display is now color. The Zire 31 only had 2 shortcut buttons, opposed to the 4 shortcut buttons on the Zire 21, which is still being shunned by Handheld Aficionados. It has now been replaced by the Z22, which lacks the SD/MMC/SDIO Expansion and MP3 capability.

[edit] Common problems and issues
- The soft and hard reset hole does not have a corresponding reset pin (e.g. in the styli).
- In the Solitare game that comes installed on the Zire 31 (Handmark™ Solitaire v3.07p), you can cheat in many ways, including getting a game time of 0 seconds, and you can put any card in the space where only a King is supposed to go, and more. (More information about these glitches [1]).
- At times, the Zire 31 handheld screen would suddenly go black, and was unable to be turned off unless a soft reset was performed.
- Many users of the Zire 31 handheld complained that its screen color and brightness were mediocre at best, and the screen was at times virtually unusable outdoors.
- Many users complained that the response time of the screen to button presses was slow. Many times, notable ghosting could be observed when users rapidly switch selections or applications windows or views.
