École Spéciale Militaire de Saint-Cyr

The École Spéciale Militaire de Saint-Cyr (ESM, "Special Military School of St Cyr") is the foremost French military academy. It is often referred to as Saint-Cyr. Its motto is "Ils s'instruisent pour vaincre": "They study to vanquish."
Founded by Napoleon in 1802, and initially located in Fontainebleau, it was moved first to Saint-Cyr l'École in 1808, and then to Coëtquidan (Brittany) in 1945.
Graduates choose between the various branches of the French Army and the French Gendarmerie.
