[edit] Astronomical events
These are astronomical dates, so they are given in the astronomical format of Year Month Day, which allows them to be ordered.
- 6212 November 7: Mercury occults Regulus
- 6587 September 9: Venus occults Regulus
- 6727 August 25: Mars occults Regulus the first time since June 28, 17,619 BC
- 6757 July 5: There is anticipated to be a simultaneous solar eclipse and transit of Mercury, the first such simultaneous eclipse and planetary transit in recorded history.
- 6947 October 9: Mercury occults Regulus
[edit] Popular culture
- According to the 1969 song "In the Year 2525" by Zager and Evans, by the year 6565 you'll be able to "pick your son and your daughter too from the bottom of a long glass tube." This test tube baby technology may be available long before then, however.
[edit] Music
The Italian symphonic metal rock band Vision Divine sings about the year 6048 and the plight of the Earth in the song "Here in 6048".
[edit] Science fiction
- The events of the video game series Xenosaga take place sometime in the early 6000s. Due to the vagueness of the times given in Episode 1 of the series ('20xx' followed by '4000 years in the future'), it is possible the events cross over into the 62nd century (though, contrary to the game itself, the dates given in Xenogears Perfect Works would place Xenosaga's events in 7277 on the AD calendar). It should be noted that Perfect Works does not apply to the Xenosaga line, as many of the writers of the Xenogears series are no longer involved in the Xenosaga project.
[edit] Other
- The year 6009 will be the first year since 1961 in which its rendering using the Hindu-Arabic numeral system will create a numeral which can be inverted, rendering the same numeral; this works in many sans-serif fonts, much handwriting, and in the standard Seven-segment display of electronic devices.
- The year 6939, the Time capsule for the year 1939 and 1965 will be opened after 5,000 years. The 1939 New York World's Fair time capsule was created by Westinghouse as part of their exhibit. It measured 90", weighed 800 pounds, and had an interior diameter of 6.5 inches. Westinghouse named the nickel and silver alloy Cupaloy, claiming it was harder than steel. Both capsules are buried 50 feet below Flushing Meadows Park, site of the Fair. The first capsule contained everyday items such as a spool of thread and doll, but also a Book of Record, a vial of staple food crop seeds, and a microscope. Microfilm spools condensed the contents of a Sears Roebuck catalog, dictionary, almanac, and other texts. An RKO Pathe Pictures newsreel, 15 minutes in length, is also included.
- The Age of Capricorn will supposedly end its 2000 year reign.
