Wrt Long Horse: You reverted the most truthful version of the page to date. [edit] Thoughts on Penumbra (game) article
I noticed you just deleted the article on Penumbra (game). This article was over a tech demo. Since it has been announced that the developers are making a full-length, commercial version of the game which has gotten coverage on various major gaming websites (such as Gamespot and IGN), would it be okay to create the article about this game as opposed to the tech demo? The commercial version was only briefly mentioned in the article, but changing it to be the focus of the article makes it more notable. ShadowMan1od 21:59, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Man, you just can't leave it alone, can you?
Despite it dodging the bullet you aimed at it for AFD, you'd just like to see the article go down in any way possible, wouldn't you? Doesn't matter if it was cleaned up or anything. - BlazeHedgehog 10:41, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding WP:Software
This is a proposed guideline, and as such isn't a suitable reason to delete an article (yet). I mention this as you have placed this as a rational for a number of AfDs. Lack of references however is a reason for proposing a deletion, so I suggest that it may be better to stick to this rational for AfD (as many of the articles you list have had referencing trouble. [edit] Weak Atheism
I would like to pose the same question to you that I just put in the talk page for strong and weak atheism. I wrote that I thought that the article should be redirected because the terms strong and weak atheism were illogical, strong atheism is atheism by definition and weak atheism is agnosticism by definition and the terms seemed to me to have no meaning, I read your response to somebody making like-minded arguments except he/she had a problem with the very term, whereas I have more of a question over what makes the terms different from agnostic and atheist. Of course I wouldn't actually redirect an article without talking to other editors and hate to be a bother but it would help put my mind at ease if you could explain as a weak atheist what differences there are between your views and agnosticism or differences between the terms themselves. I have no problem with the content but my question is more based on semantics and the fact that the terms are mentioned repeatedly in the article on atheism. Please forgive me if the question makes me look like a jerk, I don't mean it that way, its really an honest question on terminology.--Colin 8 00:11, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Secular ethics
I just wrote something that might apply and wondered what your opinion was. More relevantly you might be able to help me find citations, you may disagree with my findings but I think its at least a valid argument as well as the best argument I've written down (sad though that might be) and I can't believe that I'm the first to make these basic points (probably others made them more eloquently) and figure you might have read some authors or pundits or whatever who made these points and what the fathers of secular ethics opinions were. I figured if you could help me find some citations than you could add a counter-argument and it could really improve this article. Sorry to bother you again. --Colin 8 02:57, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] AfD Nomination: Facade Computer
I've nominated the article Facade Computer for deletion under the Articles for deletion process. We appreciate your contributions, but in this particular case I do not feel that Facade Computer satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion. I have explained why in the nomination space (see What Wikipedia is not and Deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Facade Computer. Don't forget to add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of each of your comments to sign them. You are free to edit the content of Facade Computer during the discussion, but please do not remove the "Articles for Deletion" template (the box at the top). Sorry Andrea I made a mistake and I owe you a apology. But what I found out that the true first 3D Game ever made was a PS game called Jumping Flash which was released in Japan only. Sir, I honestly don't know what you were thinking. You have deleted articles for many good games that have solid reputations. You deleted games, such as Jumper!, Ark 22, Hovecraft 3D, among others. My current Example: Jumper!. You said it were non-notable. Well, notability is a PROPOSED guideline. "The following is a proposed Wikipedia policy, guideline, or process. The proposal may still be in development, under discussion, or in the process of gathering consensus for adoption. References or links to this page should not describe it as "policy".
A proposal's acceptance or rejection is not determined simply by counting votes."
Also, as per the rules of having more than one link where the software is not hosted, for Jumper alone I can give you some of sites. Just google "jumper ogmo": http://www.inverteddungeon.com/docpan/jumper.html http://gamemakergames.com/?a=view&id=1110 http://www.everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=1546599 It is not a "fangame". Wikipedia's fangame article straight up says: "Fangames are computer and video games made by fans featuring popular based on one or more established video games." Jumper has Fangames based from it, and it is not a remake, etc of another game, though it does feature things that are reminiscant of popular platformers.
Now, I just want to make something clear with you, however. I am not meaning to attack you, and I really have nothing against you. I just think that some articles were unfairly deleted. With your blessings, I would like to restart the Jumper article, and mabye the other articles too, with some help from people that play them more than I do.
I present my case, and await your reply. --Injur3d 02:13, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Endless deletions
Hi. Before you make the assumption, I'm not some fanboy crying, "don't delete our articles". I am, however, curious as to why you seem so determined to have pages on Wikipedia deleted. After looking through your contributions, I notice that our interests have coincided twice - once when you went on your campaign of AfD nominations for Ben Croshaw and the articles that appear to have been rolled into 5 Days a Stranger series, and once earlier when you appeared on Talk:0.999.../Arguments telling us you wanted it to be deleted. The 0.999... thing doesn't really concern me because to anybody actually experienced in the article and its talk page, the necessity for such a thing is obvious.
I'm actually curious as you why you launched this one-man deletion campaign against amateur computer game producers. There seems to be no good reason for it. I'm a rational person who understands that there are some articles that deserve deletion, but I can't see why any rational person would behave in such a manner. It genuinely appears that you have some kind of antipathy towards Ben Croshaw or amateur game designers in general and are working in some bad-faith agenda. There is no other explanation for comments such as this. I have a hard time believing that anybody with purely good-faith intentions, hoping only for the improvement of Wikipedia, would ever make a comment like that. Why do you want these articles deleted? Please respond here and I will watch this page. Maelin (Talk | Contribs) 14:14, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Super Mario 64
The statements I edited were completely unsourced, unreferenced, and glaring problems in an otherwise good article. The edit in the introduction was a very conservative edit and much more accurate than the language it originally used. The paragraph in the reception section really ought to be deleted entirely, since it's pretty much a contradiction of the rest of the article, and of common sense.Frogacuda 04:04, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
- I think my edit expressing the same idea in a way that is more factually accurate. I provided an excellent rationale. A defining game would be something like, say, Will Crowther's Collossal Cave Adventure. All adventure games by virtue of being adventure game bear similarities to that game. It litereally defined a new genre. Mario 64 served as an archetype for many, if not most, later games in the genre, and it was the most popular 3D platformer ever at the time of its release. However there are MANY 3D platformers which are universally hailed as such which have no influence of MArio 64. Thus it does not define the genre.
- There's no defending the reception paragraph, and I've since deleted it. It's blatant POV, and if left in, IMO, it's a threat to the article's neutrality. At best it needs to be counterbalanced. Frogacuda 04:21, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
-
- The rest of the article says the exact opposite, though, as do many other sources. It's a really weak argument. I can cite you 100 sources that say Super Mario Bros is the first scrolling platform game, but that doesn't make it true, it makes it a popular misconception. The reception article needs balancing. I'm not trying to slight the game. I love the game. I'm just trying to represent a broader view missing from the article.Frogacuda 04:27, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
-
-
- There are no reliable sources that say that Mario 64 was mission based, attacking focused more on punching than jumping, that levels were no longer linear and time based, etc, etc? The whole article talks about how innovative and different it is, and yet it's supposed to have the same feel as an old school 2D game with linear monodirectional scrolling levels and arcade gameplay! You're just being stubborn for the sake of it, and you're not listening to what I'm saying.Frogacuda 04:39, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
-
-
-
-
- Oh yeah, and if you actually read the 1up reference at the end of the paragraph there's nothing in it that even remotely supports the claim that Mario 64 captured the feel of the old series. And citing one source is not sufficient to support the claim that "many" felt that way. That would fall under the category of weasel words.Frogacuda 04:52, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Mario 64
Andrevan, I'd really like to get the Mario 64 article up to FA status again, but you are aggressively sabatoging it, even if that isn't your intent. Please read the wiki manual on Neutral Point of View. References to not justify editorializing in an article. You can find a million sources that say it's a great game, but you shouldn't put "This is a great game[1][2]" in the article. You write, "it was hailed by many as a great game." Similarly you don't put a sentence that says "The game was so revolutionary..." or any other highly opinionated statements. These sentiments may be true, they may be popular, but they do not belong in a good wikipedia article.
Please refrain from policing genuine attempts to bring an articles status up based on your own particular sentiment. There are appropriate and inappropriate ways to phrase these thoughts, and I'm not trying to remove any content, I'm trying to maintain a neutral standpoint via wiki's own standards. Frogacuda 02:23, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
- The refernced articles don't reflect the language used in the comment. Bits of it, perhaps, but not the whole sentence. Hence my edit. I kept the refs, and I kept the general sentiment of the statement, but I worded it in a neutral way that more accurately reflects the content of the references. It is a VERY strong, very opinionated statement, and does not come off as neutral in the slightest.
Please note that I'm not trying to remove the sentence about it being regarded by many as one of the greatest games of all time, and recognize the distinction. Frogacuda 02:35, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
-
-
- My main problem with your new edit is that none of the articles purport that Mario 64 set a standard by which all 3D games would be measured. The Gamespot link purports that it established "a new standard for the way 3D space in games would be navigated." This is (IMO) quite accurate, as its dynamic camera system and analog control have had far reaching impact. It doesn't mean that the game as a whole is neccessarily some kind of high water mark by which other games need be judged. That's a much more difficult claim to make. Frogacuda 02:51, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
-
-
-
-
- It's not really splitting hairs. As it was, it smacked of hyperbole, and the point is stronger when it actually articulates something special about the game, which is probably why the article worded it as it did to begin with. I think it still accurately reflects the high regard in which it is held. Why do you find the current wording problematic or should be simplified to such hyperbole? Frogacuda 03:26, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] RE: Kid Icarus/TOSE
I don't think TOSE developed this game. Although this is stated in various places on the Internet, I think that TOSE's role was to port the game to the Game Boy. As you can see at MobyGames, there are plenty of standard Nintendo R&D1 folks in the credits. Andre (talk) 22:35, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
- As standard with TOSE's business practice. They almost never put their own programmers names in credits. It's possible that they would be behind the port for the GBA re-release, however the source I provided, as well as many others, point to them as the developers for the Disk System version (pre-dating the NES release). Since it is TOSE's practice to explicitly not use their own names on the games credits, they probably inserted R&D1 names (possible those who had a small role after the code was sent to Nintendo) because they needed to put something in there.
