Aqmola Province

Aqmola Province is a centrally located province of Kazakhstan. Its capital is Koksetau. The capital of the whole country, Astana, is enclosed in the province, but is politically separate from Aqmola Province. The province's population is 829,000; Koksetau's is 124,000. The area is 121,400 square kilometers. It and Qaraghandy Province are Kazakhstan's only two provinces which don't touch the countrie's outer borders. As well as Qaraghandy Province, Aqmola Province borders North Kazakhstan Province (Soltustik Qazaqstan), Pavlodar Province, and Qostanay Province. Some gold and coal mining occurs in the area.
