Azerbaijan is likely to make its debut in Eurovision Song Contest 2008, as AzTV will become an active member of the EBU this summer Previously, it wanted to participate in 2007, but EBU rules deleted that option, because AzTV was not by that moment an active member of the EBU, but the broadcaster assured to have received an invitation to participate. In 2006, they complained that André, first Armenian representative, was born in Nagorno-Karabakh, a autonomous Azeri region which population is mostly Armenian.
By now, Azerbaijan is the country with more interest on joining the competition. It will be the only country in the Caucasus that have never participated: Armenia was the first one, in 2006, and this year Georgia will compete.
