Here are 2 quotes from the article, one about HL, the second about HL2:
"Upon reaching the mouth, the object is quickly evaluated by the barnacle: objects considered edible by the barnacle are crushed and consumed, and unpalatable objects are released."
"Furthermore, a barnacle cannot differentiate between edible and inedible material, and will attempt to eat anything that comes into contact with its tongue."
What did the author(s) meant exactly? HL2's version picks up barrels all the way up to its mouth, after which it soon drops them again because they are inedible. Isn't that what was meant with the first part I quoted about HL? As far as I remember the HL version never picks up non-creatures, but I'm not sure. Even if I'm wrong, and it does pick them up to its mouth, isn't that identical to HL2, or does it actually consume non-creatures, which would still make the information even more wrong. Can someone clarify this for me, or maybe correct the info? Thanks! Retodon8 17:47, 10 November 2005 (UTC)

- yuo have a good point. hl 1 banicacles will not attach to anything but organic matter.. which isnt very clear in this articil. it is kind of stated but it is a little unclear. perhaps it should be reworded somehow.Chardrc
[edit] Half Life 2 Crushing theory
The article states that in Half Life 2, combine soldiers are killed when they are grabbed by the tentacle, but I have heard the Combine grunt (a death grunt, apparently) as soon as they are eaten by the barnacle. This leads me to believe that the tentacle doesn't kill the barnacle's prey, but simply paralyses it. Once again, Gordon's HEV suit can prevent it from doing this.--Chris16447 19:09, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
Yes, I agree with your evaluation completely. One thing to note is that the Combine soldiers still hold on to thier weapons as they are being pulled up, signaling that they are still alive. Also, if you shoot the soldier enough to kill it, he will drop his gun and the barnacle will drop it, likely because it will only eat live prey. I have not tried shooting the barnacle as this is occurring, however. Also, in Episode One, there is a portion where zombies can be caught by barnacles, and the barnacle eats only the headcrab, dropping the zombie to the floor. Furthermore, in the same part you can coax antlions to run through the barnacles' tongues, and they are not pulled up at all. This leads me to believe that either the barnacles prefer small prey to large prey, or they do not eat antlions or zombies. I would be glad to make any changes to this article if others approve of it. --Bionic Pants 03:15, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
"Who would win in a fight, a Barnacle or a Headcrab?" Is this question really necessary? While it is obvious that the Headcrab would win, I don't think it's appropriate to leave this in an article that primarily explains about the Barnacle. --Theelectricchild 21:29, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

- Sorry, no. There are too many differences (and only a single similarity : sedentary feeders). Venus fly traps are plants just for starters. As for reproduction, they produce seeds, just like other flowering plants. Cheers, --Plumbago 12:47, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
