Bishop Loughlin Mem. High school is presently located on Vanderbilt Ave
between Greene and Lafyette Ave. It was first opened as St. James school for boys in 1851 on Jay Street.In 1926 St. James became one of three diocesan high schools for boys. In 1933 the school was moved to Clermont Ave. St. James school later became Bishop Loughlin Memorial High in name of John Loughlin in 1933.John Loughlin was the first Roman Catholic of Brooklyn who lived from 1853 to 1891. The school band has played in various events.
The purpose of Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School is to build character,
foster and affirm student success and develop future leaders and good citizens. Bishop Loughlin challenges students to achieve their full potential.Students strive for excellence, supporting the proggression of their education in selective colleges and universities.
Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School is a Catholic high school drawing
its Christian perspective from the Diocese of Brooklyn and the three hundred year Lasallian tradition of the Brothers of the Christian Schools.This tradition values a structured environment as a prelude to learning, growth and the development of caring relationships grounded in Christian values.This tradition holds central the appreciation of each student’s uniqueness, and views the teacher as a minister of the Gospel.
Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School approaches the education of its students
in light of their academic, spiritual and developmental needs. We strive to maintain and promote our Roman Catholic identity. The teachers look for the best in their students. They encourage that their students take the time to study daily. There is a homework center in room 125 which is open Tuesday through Thursday. It takes place at 2:30 to 3:40. During this period in time students can receive help from a teacher throught any subject taught at this school.
If you are doing well at school there is no need to go to homework center.
