Are you sure about that Blades linked to the football team reference? The idea and name of the Blades have been around since at least the time of Daggerfall (mid 90s) many, MANY years before Sean Bean was picked to voice Martin.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's just a coincidence. It's not like "the Blades" is a particularly unique name or anything. RebornSentinal 20:11, 7 April 2006 (UTC)
The Blades were mentioned in Daggerfall though, not just Morrowind and Oblivion ... In fact, they might have been mentioned in Arena.
The blades were mentioned in a hidden txt file in Arena that was basically a concept page for what Arena would have been about, going to different cities and fighting in arenas. They were originally from Dune, Elsweyr, but the name wasn't used for a arena team once they changed the ideas, and instead popped up in Daggerfall.
Speaking of history though, can someone help me find stuff about the Blades history? I remember seeing in one of the books out there the founder of the blades in name (what emperor it was) but I can't seem to be able to find it again. this site is really helpful for that sort of stuff. Quick question: The article currently states that Cloud Ruler Temple is commonly known, but I'm under the impression that it's secret. The Blades as an organization are, at most, shadowy, so it's hard to believe that their stronghold would be commonly known. I'm not certain enough to change the article though. Any thoughts?
- Most Blades agents are secret and operate via stealth, but there are some that have been officially recognized and are known and respected to the public. That may be why the Temple is commonly known....but then it may not be commonly known, I haven't played Oblivion. --Niroht 16:39, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
- My guess is it's like Area 51. People know about it, but they also know it's a very bad idea to go there. It may also be knowledge available only to upper-echelon government and law enforcement-the only people outside of the Blades I heard reference Cloud Ruler were the Countess of Bruma and her guard captain, both of whom fill roles that would almost inevitably include interactions with agents of the Blades, Cloud Ruler being so close to their town. The Mythic Dawn knows where Cloud Ruler is-but there's no telling whether this is the result of a bit of espionage on their part, or if it's just known widely. I think we can assume it's espionage, as they ALSO know Martin Septim's there, a fact known only to the Blades-it seems to surprise even the Elder Council, and it's downright shocking to Countess Bruma and her people. That doesn't sound right to me, Dagoth Ur and the Daedra don't work together. Can anyone give me explenation about that sentence?
