Brightblack Morning Light or Brightblack is a collective of experimental musicians based in New Mexico. The core members of Brightblack Morning Light are Rachael Hughes and Nathan Shineywater.
Brightblack toured with Will Oldham in 2002, which led to further collaboration in the form of Brightblack's full-length debut, Ala.Cali.Tucky in 2004, as well as a 2002 split 7" single with Oldham, with both bands covering Kate Wolf songs. Pebbles and Ripples a split EP with Oldham was released by Drag City Records in 2004. In 2006, Matador Records released the group's second full-length album, Brightblack Morning Light.
The band was the subject of some criticism regarding a tour rider for their March 7, 2007 concert with William Fowler Collins and Women & Children at Club Congress, a venue in Tucson, Arizona. The tour rider included the following request: "No U.S. Military entities in any form allowed within the event." The publication of the tour rider on a music blog provoked an "online uproar". Matador Records later apologized for the "miscommunication" and clarified that the band did not want military recruiters on site.[1][2]
