First Date is a single by the pop-punk trio blink-182 off their album Take Off Your Pants and Jacket. It was written by Tom DeLonge (guitar and vocals), on the same night that Mark Hoppus (bass and vocals) wrote "The Rock Show". Both First Date and the Rock Show were written in response to producers' concerns that Take Off Your Pants and Jacket lacked catchy singles.
First Date is a classic example of Tom Delonge's tendency to write songs without vocals during the bridge. In this song, a series of palm muted power chords and a great octave chord run highlight the instrumental bridge.
Trivia
Travis Barker can be seen wearing a Metallica "Kill E'm All" t-shirt.
Mark hoppus is playing his signature Fender Prescion bass in the video.
Tom can also be seen playing his signature Fender Stratocaster guitar.
[edit] Music video
The video, directed by The Malloys and released in 2001 is set in 1974 El Segundo, California, and features the band with long hair wearing clothes from that time. It has the band members parodying bands like the Bee Gees. Featured in the video was Renee Renee, playing the guy who tried to feel up the different members of the band on the water slide.
