Honey Cone was an American R&B and soul singing girl group who was most famous for the #1 hit, "Want Ads", and were the premier female group for the legendary Holland-Dozier-Holland writing and producing team in the early-1970s after the team departed from Motown Records.

The members of the group included lead singer Edna Wright, Carolyn Willis and Shellie Clarke. Formed in 1969 by H-D-H, naming them after an ice cream cone and signing to HDH's Hot Wax record label, the team and the group would collaborate throughout the first half of the 1970s resulting in hit singles including "While You're Out Looking For Sugar," "Want Ads," "Stick Up," "One Monkey Don't Stop No Show," "The Day I Found Myself," and "If I Can't Fly".
The group disbanded in 1974 after success languished and continued recording background vocals for other acts despite an attempt at a comeback in 1976. Carolyn Willis returned to the Top 10 in 1976 as a credited guest vocalist on Seals & Crofts' "Get Closer." Their famed hit, "Want Ads," was recently sampled by gospel duo Mary Mary, in their hit song, "Heaven," in 2005. That year also saw their song, "Innocent Until Proven Guilty" sampled by rapper Common for his song "Testify." Edna Wright even makes a cameo in both videos singing the chorus to "Heaven" and appearing in the pool hall early in the video for "Testify." The group listed former HDH collaborators Martha and the Vandellas as their influence.
