Hoya Corporation is a Japanese company that manufactures optical products ranging from laser equipment to contact lenses. The headquarters are in 2-7-5 Naka-Ochiai, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo. It is probably best known for being one of the worlds leading manufacturers of photographic filters. Hoya is currently merging with Pentax into Hoya Pentax HD Corporation. The merger will be completed by October 1, 2007.[1]
The company has been criticized for supplying laser glass slabs to the National Ignition Facility (NIF) at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.[2] The Mayors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki have sent protest letters to the company.
