I believe that having a united Yugoslavia and one ethnic group - Yugoslavs - is a far better option than having numerous small countries/ethnicities, and here are my reasons.

[edit] National Status and Pride
I think most people would agree that all the different "ethnicities" of the Former Yugoslavia are actually one people, separated only by religion. If these people would just come to terms with the fact that they are the same people - by culture and by blood - and agree to call themselves "Yugoslavs", then the group would number around 30 million in the world, instead of having many little groups with little numbers.
Yugoslavs, combining the best and brightest historical and present Bosniaks, Croats, Macedonians, Montenegrins, Serbs, and Slovenes, would be seen as a people who have contributed greatly to history, science, culture, technology, etc. Because of the huge amount of "great" people who would be termed Yugoslavs, the Yugoslav people would not have to constantly "prove" that their nation is historically significant, and important in modern times - something which the ex-yu ethnicities are always having to do.
Furthermore, there would be no constant bickering over who was who in history. For example, Serbs and Croats would not have to argue over Ruđer Josip Bošković/Руђер Јосип Бошковић, and instead he would be declared a Yugoslav, and then there would be a united front from Yugoslavs against Italian Irredentism and other anti-Yugoslav prejudices.
[edit] Language
There would be no need to try and distinguish one language from another. It would just be one language, Serbo-Croatian. I think the main source of controversy with the language is it's name. It should have been called Yugoslavian - no other national names, no problems. However regional languages (Slovenian and Macedonian) would be treated with full respect, and granted "official status". Having said that, I do believe that two script for the language is not viable; the Latin alphabet should be used as it is used far more than any other writing system in the world.
[edit] Economic and Military advantages
United, Yugoslavia could have a strong economy - comparable to countries such as Austria, or maybe even Germany. The military would be stronger as well; defence would be easier and the country could contribute more to international peace keeping.
[edit] History
There would be no fighting over whose history belongs to who. Was Tvrtko Bosnian/Bosniak/Croat/Serb/Serbian? No, he would just be Yugoslav, and all the history of the region would be a part of Yugoslav history. I mean, there were many different German kingdoms and principalities, but there is just one German history. It should be the same with Yugoslavia. All teh different kingdoms, unions, provinces, regions, would all be viewed as the history of one nation.
[edit] Capital City
To prevent problems with arguing over what should be the capital city, Yugoslavia could follow Australia's example. Sydney and Melbourne were arguing bitterly over which should be the capital, so they built a new city for a capital - Canberra. The same could be done for Yugoslavia.
